Hello 

I’m Meagan, a freelance Writer/Creative based in Auckland. I specialise in brand identity: conception, naming and story for conscious lifestyle, FMCG, hospitality and the creative and public sector.  I contract to agencies and work directly with emerging and established businesses and brands. 

Language is my instrument. I love finding surprising and meaningful bridges between ideas, words and design. I help brands and organisations to establish a tone of voice that is authentic, contemporary and relevant to our times.

My writing skill and all-round agility also allow me to seamlessly adopt an existing brand voice, refreshing and elevating it as required. In addition to brand development, I have worked across a broad variety of copywriting projects for a range of industries. I have experience in print ad concepting, social campaigns, websites, digital articles, brochures, internal comms, editorial, scriptwriting and more. 

My independent, professional approach means that I’m set up to work remotely from my home office or at yours. I enjoy collaborating and delivering effective, engaging and beautiful work. 

My Story

Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia to run-away New Zealand parents, my writing journey began at university where I studied Politics. From here, I was employed by The West Australian Government to research and write ministerial briefing notes for Cabinet. Frustrated by the bureaucratic pitfalls of my department, I switched paths and began work as a writer at a boutique advertising agency before departing on a long OE through Asia. 

On route to return, I fell deeply in love and resettled in Auckland where I had a couple of beautiful, but incredibly consuming children who I dedicated my time to in the early years of their upbringing.  Emerging from domestic reverie with energy to burn, I commenced a Masters Degree in Creative Writing at Auckland University.

Over the last four years, I have continued to write, write and write. My short fiction and poetry has been published in numerous established New Zealand literary magazines while I have pursued and maintained a varied handful of brand writing projects. These projects have evolved and accumulated into a modest client list and portfolio—from which Verse was born.
